Shantiwan Background -

  • Inspired by the social work of Late Shri Baba Amte, a young couple Dipak and Kaveri Nagargoje along with their colleagues, initiated Shantiwan Social Project in a small village, Aarvi in remote area of Shirur Kasar Tehsil of Beed District on 27th of November 2001. The first project to start was rehabilitation of children of sugarcane workers, orphans, homeless children, child labourers, children of Tamasha artists; and destitute, divorced women. Today, Shantiwan activists are working on many social issues around us. Despite several difficulties, Shantiwan has been rigorously serving the society since its foundation. For effective and consistent social service, Shantiwan has focused on development of infrastructural facilities such as, hostel, school, rehabilitation center, etc. Your contribution in this work is equally important…

    Shantiwan Projects -
Shantiwan was founded on 27th of November 2001 in remote area of Aarvi village, with inspiration from Late Shri. Baba Amte. Initiated with an objective of educationally rehabilitating children of sugarcane workers, Shantiwan has added many more social projects to its portfolio.

    • Avanti Ambar Boys’ Hostel -

Since sugarcane workers keep migrating for work, it is impossible to educationally rehabilitate their children without residence and meal facilities. Hence, a hostel called Avanti Ambar has been built in the premises of Shantiwan, for such children. This hostel hosts 200 students on date.

    • Sahyadri Girls’ Hostel -

Along with boys, Shantiwan took the responsibility to rehabilitate girls, too, from sugarcane workers’ families. A girls’ hostel, Sahyadri has been built with a capacity of 50 residents.

    • Primary School -

After Shantiwan was founded in 2001, its dedicated social workers visited habitats and settlements of sugarcane workers to convince importance of education for their children. This created awareness among parents and they agreed to send their children to Shantiwan. In June 2001, the project enrolled 100 residential students. The problem of residence was solved by Shantiwan, but no school was available for these students. Since Shantiwan was located far away from the village and one had to cross muddy roads, small canals, and big river, it was impossible for students to walk to the school. After notifying this matter to the government, a primary school was sanctioned within premises of Shantiwan itself.

    • Saraswati Vidya Mandir -

Various newspapers published stories about the work initiated by Shantiwan. This helped Shantiwan reach out to people and contributions started flowing in. Education Officers experienced the work by Shantiwan and suggested to start a school for these children. A proposal was sent to the government in this regard. In the year 2002, a school by name Saraswati Sadhana Vidya Mandir was sanctioned as a special case for Shantiwan. Hundreds of students are learning in this school today. A modern and well-equipped building has been constructed for this school in Shantiwan premises.
